You don’t have to try them all. Just work your way down the list until you find the one that does the trick.

- Launch the game through the EA app
- Update your graphics driver
- Verify the integrity of game files

Fix 1 – Unplug any peripherals
According to some players, Battlefield 2042 crashes when they have a racing wheel connected to the computer. Peripherals such as a wheel, controller or other USB devices connected to the PC may interfere with Battlefield 2042 and lead to the crash. You can just disconnect them to see if the problem disappears.
If no gaming gears are plugged in, you can read on to rule out other possible causes.
Fix 2 – Launch the game through the EA app
The EA app, the newest iteration of the Electronic Arts gaming platform, is available now. If your Battlefield 2042 doesn’t work perfectly with Origin, try to launch it with this all-new app, which is supposed to be more smooth. And you don’t need to redownload the game on the EA app.
- Close your Origin client.
- Download the EA app and follow the on-screen instruction to install it.
- Launch the EA app and open Battlefield 2042.
Check if the game works without problem. If not, there are a few more fixes below.
Fix 3 – Update your graphics driver
Every player knows how important the graphics driver is to the gaming experience. If you’re using a faulty or outdated graphics driver, games will be unstable with constant crashes or stutters, especially when you’re playing demanding titles like Battlefield 2042. For the top gaming performance, you should keep your graphics driver up-to-date.
If you’re familiar with computer hardware, you can visit the official website of the graphics card manufacturer like NVIDIA or AMD, and download the correct driver corresponding with your operating system.
If you don’t have the time, patience or computer skills to update the graphics driver manually, you can do it automatically with Driver Easy.
Driver Easy will automatically recognize your system and find the correct drivers for it. You don’t need to know exactly what system your computer is running, you don’t need to risk downloading and installing the wrong driver, and you don’t need to worry about making a mistake when installing.
- Download and install Driver Easy.
- Run Driver Easy and click the Scan Now button. Driver Easy will then scan your computer and detect any problem drivers.
- Click Update All to automatically download and install the correct version of all the drivers that are missing or out of date on your system.
(This requires the Pro version which comes with full support and a 30-day money-back guarantee. You’ll be prompted to upgrade when you click Update All. If you’re not ready to buy the Pro version, Driver Easy offers a 7-day free trial which includes access to all the Pro features such as high-speed download and one-click install. You won’t be charged anything until your 7-day trial has ended.)
After the driver update is completed, reboot the computer. See whether the performance boosts in Battlefield 2042. If not, check out the next solution.
Fix 4 – Verify the integrity of game files
Corrupted or missing game file is another common cause of game crashes. Try to run a thorough scan of your game file to see if it’s the culprit. Here are the steps:
If you’re on Origin
- Open Origin and select My Game Library from the left pane. Then click Battlefield 2042 from the list.
- Click the gear icon next to the Play button and click Repair.
Wait until the integrity check to complete and restart your game. If the crashing issue reoccurs, move on to Fix 5.
If you’re on Steam
- Launch Steam.
- In the LIBRARY, right-click Battlefield 2042 and select Properties from the drop-down menu.
- Select the Installed Files tab and click on the Verified integrity of game files button.
- Steam will verify the game’s files – this process may take several minutes.
Once the process finishes, restart Battlefield 2042 to check if it crashes again. If so,
Fix 5 – Run the game as an administrator
Certain games may require administrator rights to run properly. To see if that’s the case with Battlefield 2042, you can run it as an administrator. Just follow the instructions to do this:
- Navigate to the installation folder of Battlefield 2042.
- Right-click the bf.exe file and select Properties.
- Select the Compatibility tab. Then tick Run this program as an administrator and click OK.
Now test the issue. If the game is still buggy, continue to the next method.
Fix 6 – Disable in-game overlay
Overlay allows players to access some features like voice chat or screenshots while playing a game. That’s a great convenience but can trigger game crashes in some situations. Simply turn it off if you don’t necessarily need it and see how the game works.
You could jump to the steps that correspond with your gaming platform: Origin, EA app or Steam.
On Origin
- Open Origin and navigate to the My Game Library. Then choose Battlefield 2042 from the list.
- Click the gear icon and click Game Properties.
- Untick Enable Origin In Game for Battlefield 2042, and click Save.
Launch Battlefield 2042 to test. If the issue isn’t resolved, go ahead with Fix 7.
On EA app
- Launch Battlefield 2042 via the EA app.
- Click the triple bar on the far left and select Settings.
- Select the Application tab. Then scroll down and toggle off In-game overlay.
If the Battlefield 2042 crash persists, take a look at the last fix.
On Steam
- Open Steam and click the Library tab.
- Right-click Battlefield 2042 from the list and click Properties.
- On the General tab, untick Enable the Steam Overlay while in game.
If disabling the overlay doesn’t give you luck, try the last fix.
Fix 7 – Reinstall Windows
If all the methods above failed, consider reinstalling Windows as the last resort. When there are critical system issues with your Windows, you may encounter program crashes or freezes. To solve it, you can perform a clean install of Windows manually. But if you prefer an easier option, we recommend Fortect. It’s a powerful tool that replaces the damaged files on your system and improves your PC’s performance and security without harming the user data.
- Download and install Fortect.
- Open Fortect and click Yes to run a free scan of your PC.
- Fortect will scan your computer thoroughly. This may take a few minutes.
- Once done, you’ll see a detailed report of all the issues on your PC. To fix them automatically, click START REPAIR. This requires you to purchase the full version. But don’t worry. If Fortect doesn’t solve the issue, you can request a refund within 60 days.
Your system may return to a healthy condition after a thorough repair. Simply launch your game and it should be working fine.
