There’re 5 fixes that have helped many gamers solve their problems. You don’t have to try them all; just work your way down the list until you find the one that works for you.
- Update your drivers
- Verify file integrity
- Update DirectX
- Stop overclocking or boosting
- Disable third-party software
- Repair system files
- Lower settings
- Reinstall the game
1. Update your drivers
Outdated or corrupted drivers are the common reason for game crashing, therefore, make sure you have the most up-to-date drivers, especially for graphics and sound card drivers.
There are two ways to find the correct and the latest driver:
Option 1 – Manually – Graphics card manufacturers will roll out graphics drivers optimized for the latest titles on a regular basis. You can download the most recent correct driver from their websites (AMD or NVIDIA) and install it manually.
The manual driver update is a bit time-consuming and error-prone. So if you prefer a stress-free process, check out the second option below.
Option 2 – Automatically (Recommended) – If you don’t have the time, patience, or computer skills to update your video driver manually, you can, instead, do it automatically with Driver Easy. Driver Easy will automatically recognize your system and find the correct drivers for your exact GPU, and your Windows version, and it will download and install them correctly:
- Download and install Driver Easy.
- Run Driver Easy and click the Scan Now button. Driver Easy will then scan your computer and detect any problem drivers.
- Click Update All to automatically download and install the correct version of all the drivers that are missing or out of date on your system.
(This requires the Pro version which comes with full support and a 30-day money-back guarantee. You’ll be prompted to upgrade when you click Update All. If you’re not ready to buy the Pro version, Driver Easy offers a 7-day free trial which includes access to all the Pro features such as high-speed download and one-click install. You won’t be charged anything until your 7-day trial has ended.) - Restart your computer for the changes to take effect.
If you need assistance, please contact Driver Easy’s support team at support@drivereasy.com.
Restart your computer for the changes to take effect, and then check Hogwarts Legacy again. It should be running properly. If not, move to the next fix.
2. Verify file integrity
Corrupted game installation is another game crashing issue. When you have a corrupted installation of the game client, Hogwarts Legacy certainly crashes when you log in. The process of “verify file integrity” will check your game installation and repair the corrupted game files. After the process, all the files for the game should be intact.
- Launch the Steam client and go to Library.
- Right-click Hogwarts Legacy and select Properties.
- Click the Local Files tab, then select Verify Integrity of Game Files.
- When it’s done, relaunch Steam and the game.
If it doesn’t help, move to the next fix.
3. Update DirectX
Direct X is installed with every game and when your PC is not running the correct D3D installer version, you may encounter game crashes and other issues. Since there is no stand-alone package of DirectX available in Windows, you can only update DirectX via Windows Update.
You can check for Windows Updates manually by using the steps below:
- Press the Windows logo key + I (i) together.
- In Settings, click Update & Security.
- Select Windows Update and click Check for updates.
- Follow the on-screen instructions so that Windows Update will automatically download & install the latest DirectX for you (included in the updates).
- Reboot your PC and launch the game to see the difference.
4. Stop overclocking or boosting
If you are overclocking or boosting a component in your computer, such as your graphics card, try disabling overclock or resetting components to manufacturer specifications. Some users said disabling their GPU overclock seems helped.
5. Disable third-party software
It’s possible that some third-party software will cause game performance issues and crashes while launching, loading, or playing the game. For example, your keyboard’s RGB settings. If your keyboard supports RGB settings, you can temporarily disable these settings and see if it solves your problem.
Also, some applications require significant system resources, you can close extraneous background apps before launching. This may change the game’s performance or stability.
In addition, games crashing sometimes are caused by antivirus software. Some antivirus software may block certain game files which cause difficulties in launching Hogwarts Legacy on your PC. You can temporarily disable your antivirus software to determine whether Hogwarts Legacy crashing is caused by your antivirus software. If that’s the culprit, check your antivirus support page or help for a ‘gaming mode’ or similar option and enable that prior to playing. Or use another anti-malware software.
6. Repair system files
Problematic system files (e.g. missing DLLs) can also affect the smooth launching and operation of the system and game. To check if your PC has flawed system files, you may want to run a quick and thorough scan with Fortect.
It a software that’s equipped with powerful technology for securing and repairing PCs to an optimized state. Specifically, it replaces damaged Windows files, removes malware threats, detects dangerous websites, frees disk space, and so on. All the replacement files come from a full database of certified system files.
Take a look at how it works:
- Download and install Fortect.
- Open Fortect and click Yes to run a free scan of your PC.
- Fortect will scan your computer thoroughly. This may take a few minutes.
- Once done, you’ll see a detailed report of all the issues on your PC. To fix them automatically, click START REPAIR. This requires you to purchase the full version. But don’t worry. If Fortect doesn’t solve the issue, you can request a refund within 60 days.
Email: support@fortect.com
After the repairs, restart your computer and Hogwarts Legacy to see if it fixes the problem.
7. Lower settings
Even if your system meets the minimum specifications for the game, increasing the settings will put more workload on your hardware. In this case, lowering settings to the medium can be helpful. The minimum system requirements provide a list of the basic hardware necessary for the game to function, usually on lower graphics settings. Even if your system meets the recommended specifications for a game, enabling certain options that improve rendering quality may adversely affect performance and stability.
If you experience issues with performance or stability, it is advisable to use a reduced graphics settings profile for features related to graphics in the Options Menu within the game.
8. Reinstall the game
If the game crashing doesn’t fix, you can also try uninstalling and reinstalling the game:
- Open Steam and click on Library.
- Right-click the game and select Uninstall.
- After the process completes you can reinstall the game by left-clicking on the game name within your Library and selecting Install from the game page that appears.
That’s for Hogwarts Legacy crashing issue. If you still have problems, submit a request and an agent will do their best to assist you.
